Our maiden voyage in the brand new 2018 Jayco Hummingbird!
Winter in Southwest Colorado has been long, hard, and extremely snowy. We are so thankful for the moisture (no fires this summer!), however, we decided to go looking for some sunshine; time to go South.
We ended up South of Albuquerque, New Mexico, by about 50 miles, skirting the Northern boundary of Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge. We found a dirt road that ventures West of I-25 and if you stay on it long enough you end up Magdelena.
We set up camp with some friends and no sooner had we settled than some not so friendly ranchers decided to try to run us off with stories about mountain lions, coyotes, flash floods, snow, pretty much anything they could think of. After assuring them that neither us, nor or dogs, would bother their live stock, they drove of with a wave and a smile. They would only be back to check on us at least five more times.
We had a great time unwinding around the campfire with a nice glass of Rosé, eating delicious meals, enjoying the company of our friends, and exploring a new area. With the winds picking up, and yet another snow storm headed its way into Southern Colorado, we decided to pack up early to beat the storm. We decided to make the obligatory stop by Trader Joe's on the way home and just barely beat the storm.
Our maiden voyage was a success and we worked out all the kinks on our new camper so it is all ready for your adventure!
Where will your adventure take you??
See you on the trail!
